Toronto, ON, Canada – Caribana™’s Festival Management Committee (FMC), in conjunction with the Association of African-Canadian Artists, is presenting a three-week art exhibition in Toronto’s Distillery District. “COLOURblind! International” is a 70-piece exhibition showcasing contemporary African Canadian artists from Toronto and surrounding areas.
The show will be hung in the Distillery District’s Blue Dot Gallery. “COLOURblind! International” is the visual art component of the 40th annual Caribana™ Festival 2007 - the unparalleled international Toronto festival celebrating the Caribbean culture.
Joan Butterfield is the curator for the exhibition "For me, COLOURblind! and the success of it, is truly a dream come true,” said Butterfield. “Having successfully worked in the USA market for the past 20 years, I so desired to use the knowledge acquired to assist and expose my fellow Canadian Artists."
The theme of the exhibition is “Masks” – the Mask conceal the human and reveals the divine. It conceals the specific yet reveal the universe. Some of the artists contributing works to the show include painters Sonia Farquharson and Izzy Ohiro. The show opens on Tuesday, July 24th with its gala evening reception to be held two days later on Thursday, July 26th. This art show has a 32-page catalogue available free of charge.
Located at 55 Mill Street, Building 47, Suite 101 in the historic Distillery District, the Blue Dot Gallery is housed in a fabulous building with over a century of heritage. The privately owned gallery exhibits contemporary artwork from around the world, as well as work from local artists. The gallery is open Monday to Friday from 11am to 7pm, Saturdays 10am to 6pm, and Sundays 12 Noon until 5 pm.
